We often take our hands for granted. In many ways, it is our hands that make us human: they express our emotions, show our age, produce masterpieces in art and science and allow us to make a decent living! Because they do so much for us, any injury that affects our ability to feel or manipulate our hands can be quite debilitating. As a result, tendon and nerve repair are intricate operations that require precision and skill.
How its done?
Through zig-zag incisions across the palm/fingers, individual tendons and nerves are meticulously repaired. Although the length of the procedure depends on the degree of injury, surgeries often take 1 hour to complete and are usually done under general anesthesia or arm block (with sedation)
Why choose us?
At the WSC, our board-certified plastic surgeons have years of experience and excellence in hand surgery. Our team of anesthesiologists, nurses and caregivers are devoted to providing you with the highest level of care. We do our best to keep you informed, put you at ease and provide you with a satisfying experience
Performed as an outpatient procedure, patients experience minimal discomfort that is easily controlled with oral medication. Full recovery from hand surgery can take months and a complete return to normal range of motion may never be achieved. To improve finger flexibility after surgery, physiotherapy is an absolute necessity. The vast majority of patients recover well with much improved hand function.
Detailed pre- and post-operative instructions will be provided at the WSC.
