Lip Enhancement Winnipeg

Lip augmentation is a common cosmetic procedure designed to rejuvenate the look of your lips by restoring their fullness through the injection of the patient’s own fat or fillers made of hyaluronic acid.

Patients request lip augmentation for a variety of reasons. Some would like to correct a hereditary asymmetry. Some would like to remove lip lines that develop with aging and sun exposure. Some simply desire more full sensuous lips (or the ‘Angelina Jolie’-look).

Injectable fillers are a non-surgical, non-permanent solution smoothing away wrinkles and lines by adding volume to the skin and the deeper tissues. There are many different brands of biologic fillers. At the WSC we use fillers made of hyaluronic acid (Restylane®, Juvéderm®), a natural substance found in connective tissues and cartilage. Because it is a natural substance, Hyaluronic Acid injections do not carry the risk of an allergic reaction. With the duration of effect generally being 6 months, patients initially may not like the fact that the treatment is not permanent and has to be repeated twice a year. However permanent fillers, in comparison, carry increased risk of irreversible cosmetic deformity, migration of the filler, acute and chronic infection and extrusion.

Fat grafting of the lip (“structural fat grafting’) is also a well tolerated, possibly more permanent solution. The results of lip augmentation fat transfer surgery often last anywhere from six months to several years. However, an added minor procedure is required to harvest the micro-fat injection and fat injections can be more unpredictable, resulting in lumping and scarring.

Your plastic surgeon will recommend the most appropriate treatment option to help you achieve your goals.

How its done?

The treatment process is non-surgical, requiring simply an injection of a tissue filler or prepared microfat samples under local anesthesia.

The entire procedure only takes about an hour from start to finish.

If you are in good general health and have specific but realistic goals for the improvement of your appearance, there is no defined age limit for this procedure.

Post-operative course

Performed as an outpatient procedure, most injectable fillers cause some swelling for a period 24 to 36 hours.  Although the swelling may be slightly noticeable, it should not prevent you from returning to your normal activities.  Microfat grafts cause slightly more swelling and require 48 to 72 hours to resume normal activity.

Detailed pre- and post-operative instructions will be provided at the WSC.

What do I do?
