Face and Neck Lift

Rhytidectomy

The roads we have travelled during our lives are etched in the wrinkles on our faces.

Multiple factors contribute to the rate of aging in facial skin. Sun exposure, genetics and all contribute to premature wrinkling and skin laxity. The face-lift is a surgical procedure designed to turn back the hands of time by eliminating the most obvious signs of aging.

A face lift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping.

How its done?

There are a variety of face and neck lift techniques. The decision which approach is appropriate for you depends on the specific features of your face and the degree of looseness in the skin of your neck. After assessing your skin quality, hairline, hairstyle and bone structure, our plastic surgeons will decide with you which approach most suit your unique needs.

Face lift incisions are well hidden in your hair and in the natural creases around the ear, scalp, and when needed, under the chin. The excess skin and fat is removed, the underlying muscles and deep soft tissues are tightened and once trimmed, the skin of the face and neck is sutured back into place. The procedure can take between 2 to 3 hours and is usually performed under a general anesthetic.

Why choose us?

Face and neck lifts are frequently requested cosmetic surgical procedures. At the WSC, our board-certified plastic surgeons have years of experience and excellence in the ‘art’ of this highly personal procedure. Am I a candidate?

The best candidate for a facelift is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well-defined. If you are in good general health and have specific but realistic goals for the improvement of your appearance, there is no defined age limit for this procedure.

Post-operative course

Performed as an outpatient procedure, most patients experience minimal discomfort easily controlled with oral medication. Bruising and swelling of the face, neck, and the eye area is common. This should subside within 2 to 3 weeks. Some numbness of the skin is quite normal; it will disappear in a few weeks or months

Typical recovery time is approximately 3-4 weeks with mild discomfort that can be easily controlled with medication. Typically, small tubes inserted to ensure proper drainage are removed within 48 hours after surgery. Bandages and most of your stitches will be removed after about five days.

After avoiding strenuous activity for at least two weeks, patients should be able to return to work and regular social activites within 3-4 weeks after surgery.

Detailed pre- and post-operative instructions will be provided at the WSC.
