Liposuction
In many situations, even vigorous sustained exercise and regimented dieting will not be able to remove pockets of fatty tissue in certain areas of your body. These stubborn areas can be disheartening and a persistent blow to one’s self-confidence. Liposuction is an extremely popular cosmetic procedure designed to remove fatty tissue from almost any area of the body that has not responded to diet and exercise.
How its done?
Although numerous liposuction techniques have been developed, the general procedure does not vary greatly between techniques. Water-assisted liposuction, or ‘Body Jet’, is exclusively available at the WSC. This technique allows for a more controlled procedure with less pain and faster recovery afterwards. ‘Body Jet’ also allows the option to harvest fat for grafting to needed areas elsewhere.
The surgeon will make a tiny incision beside the fat-pocket to be removed. After a solution is infused that minimizes blood loss, a thin suction tube is inserted through the incision into the deep fat underneath. A controlled back and forth motion disrupts the fatty tissue allowing it to be suctioned out of the body. Although the length of the procedure depends on the amount of fatty tissue to be removed, liposuction often takes 1-2 hours to complete and is usually done under general anesthesia.
Why choose us?
The public demand for liposuction has been increasing yearly. In fact, for many people it has become almost synonymous with cosmetic surgery! At the WSC, our board-certified plastic surgeons have years of experience and excellence in the ‘art’ of this highly personal procedure. Nowadays, with the number of liposuction options available to you, our plastic surgeons are ideally suited to guide you to the option that best achieves the look you desire.
Am I a candidate?
It is important to realize that a liposuction is NOT a short-cut to weight loss or a substitute for proper diet. The goal is not to lose weight but to improve body contour. If you are frustrated and self-conscious with persistent ‘bulges’ that will not go away despite your best efforts… If you are in good general health, at a stable weight and have specific but realistic goals for the improvement of your appearance… this procedure may be for you.
Post-operative course
Performed as an outpatient procedure, patients experience minimal discomfort that is easily controlled with oral medication. You will experience some bruising and swelling after surgery, as well as a feeling of numbness around the incision lines. You may be asked to wear a tight fitting garment, similar to girdle, that will help to decrease swelling and provide abdominal support as you heal.
Following liposuction, most patients are back to work within 5 days but should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for 2-3 weeks.
Detailed pre- and post-operative instructions will be provided at the WSC.
