After completing his medical training and General Surgery residency at the University of Manitoba and a Clinical Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at McGill University, Dr. Andrew was appointed an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba Department of Surgery, Section of General Surgery, in September 2004. Dr. Andrew became Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program in 2008 and is currently focusing his clinical practice on bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy. 

Dr. John Bracken

Dr. Bracken completed his Bachelor of Science, medical training and residency in General Surgery at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Bracken was appointed an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery (Section of General Surgery) at the University of Manitoba  in 1998 and is currently focusing his clinical practice in bariatrics and minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Krista Hardy completed her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and her residency in General Surgery at the University of Manitoba. After achieving a Clinical Fellowship in Laparoscopic Surgery at the University of Toronto,  Dr. Hardy was appointed an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery (Section of General Surgery) at the University of Manitoba and is currently focusing her clinical practice in bariatrics, minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy.

Dr. Shahzeer Karmali

Dr. Shahzeer Karmali completed his Fellowship training in Bariatric Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, Texas). Board Certified in Canada and the United States of America, Dr. Karmali is an executive member and Secretary of the Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons. Based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Dr. Karmali is also an Assistant Professor (Department of Surgery), at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Vergis completed his Doctor of Medicine (2002) and residency in general surgery (2008) at the University of Manitoba while concurrently earning a Masters of Medical Education through the University of Dundee, Scotland. After obtaining his Canadian and American Board Certifications in surgery, he attained a clinical fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is currently an Assistant Professor of surgery at he University of Manitoba and is an active member of theMinimally Invasive Advanced Training Centre, St. Boniface General Hospital. His clinical and research interests focus on laparoscopic/bariatric surgery and surgical education.

Dr. Carla Cohn

Dr. Cohn graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1991. She then went on to complete a post-graduate internship in Paediatric Dentistry. In addition to private practice, she is a clinical instructor, part-time, in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Cohn lectures internationally on prevention and Paediatric Dentistry for the general dentist.

Dr. Cory Sul

Dr. Sul graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry and completed a residency program at the Royal University Hospital. Having served on the board of the Canadian Dental Association, Dr. Sul was a founding board member of the U of Manitoba Dental Alumni Association and will serve as president of the Winnipeg Dental Society in 2012. He has been awarded the Certificate of Merit from both the MDA and CDA. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the art and science of the dental profession, Dr Sul was elected for fellowship into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international honorary dental society.

A graduate of the University of Manitoba School of Dentistry (1998), Dr. Shulakewych specializes in treating patients who cannot tolerate conventional dental treatment. Providing adults with all elements of general dentistry ranging from basic cleanings and fillings to complex restorative and cosmetic cases, Dr. Shulakewych has catered his practice to treat anxious patients who prefer to have their dental work done while asleep (IV sedation or general anesthesia). His commitment to oral health, comfort and to the education of his patients keep him on the leading edge of dental science. Dr. Shulakewych is a member of the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Jeremy Kredentser

Dr. Kredentser is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Manitoba. He did a fellowship at Harvard Medical School and is certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. With over 20 years experience in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Kredentser served a 13-year term as Head of the Reproductive Endocrinology Section of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Health Sciences Centre/University of Manitoba before becoming a partner in the HEARTLAND Fertility & Gynecology Clinic.

Dr. Francis Lee

Focus: Fertility

Dr. Lee has extensive experience in gynecology, gynecological surgery, and women's health issues. An Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Lee was Past President for the Manitoba Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as well as Past President for the Manitoba Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He also serves in the Sub-Committee for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Section in the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecology of Canada (SOGC). He is a Training Preceptor for advanced techniques in laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, laser and microscopic tubal reversal surgeries. He was associated with the Infertility Clinic at St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg from 1981 to 1997 before becoming a partner in the HEARTLAND Fertility & Gynecology Clinic.

Dr. Gordon McTavish

Focus: Fertility

Dr. McTavish is certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons and completed the Society of Reproductive Surgeons Fellowship in Laparoscopic and Reproductive Surgery in Nashville Tennessee. His extensive experience in women's healthcare and gynecological surgery includes advanced operative laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and all areas of reproductive and infertility care. His expertise includes tubal reanastomosis, laser surgery, endometriosis surgery, uterine fibroids, and uterine anomalies. Actively involved in medical education, Dr. McTavish currently serves as the Coordinator of the Resident Training Program for Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Manitoba. Dr. McTavish is the Director of Ultrasound and one of the Founding Partners of the HEARTLAND Fertility and Gynecology Clinic.

Dr. Gillespie is the current Medical Director of the Western Surgery Centre and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthamology at the University of Manitoba. After completing his Residency in Ophthamology, (Long Island Jewish 1987;
 Completed Fellowship in Manhattan Eye & Ear 1989), Dr. Gillespie began his ophthalmology practice in Winnipeg in 1989. He has seen over 25,000 patients since beginning his private practice and has performed over 12,000 cataract surgeries.

Dr. Davinder Rehsia

Dr. Davinder Rehsia

Focus: Ophthalmology

Dr. Rehsia has been practicing comprehensive Ophthalmology in Winnipeg for the last thirty years. He completed his Ophthalmology training from the University of Manitoba and is board certified in United States as well as in Canada. He is fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is a member of the Canadian Society of Ophthalmology. The focus of his practice has been in the areas of Glaucoma, Cataract and Refractive Surgery, however, currently he is dedicating his practice primarily to Cataract Surgery. He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Manitoba. He has vast experience in Cataract Surgery having performed over 20,000 procedures.
 

Dr. Antonio Canosa

Focus: Oral Surgery

Dr. Canosa graduated form the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry in 1995 (D.M.D Honours). From 1995-97, Dr. Canosa interned in the Hospital Dental Internship Program, Faculty of Medicine, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg before entering into the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program at the University of Manitoba in 1997. He received his Masters Degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and since his graduation, Dr. Canosa has been an Assistant and now Associate Professor in the Department of Dental Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences, at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Canosa is a member of the Manitoba Dental Association, Canadian Dental Association, Manitoba Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

After completing his medical training at Shanghai Medical University (1992) and a PhD in Physiology at the University of Western Ontario (1998), Dr. Guan graduated from University of Manitoba School of Dentistry in 2002. In addition to private practice, Dr. Guan has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba since he completed the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Program (2006) and he is the current President of the Manitoba Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Andrew Stoykewych

Dr. Stoykewych completed his predental, dental and specialty training at the University of Manitoba. Since 1986 he has been on the staff of the Department of Surgery at the Health Sciences Centre and the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba. For the past 18 years Dr. Stoykewych was the head of the undergraduate oral and maxillary surgery program at the University of Manitoba. In addition to dentoalveolar surgery his surgical interests include implantology, orthognathic surgery and the management of traumatic injuries of the facial skeleton.

Dr. Ken Murray

Dr. Murray is a founding member of the Western Surgery Centre. Having received his medical training at the University of Dalhousie and Western Ontario, Dr. Murray did additional fellowship training at the University of Western Ontario and Southern Illinois University. Currently a Professor of Surgery in Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery and certified in both Canada and the United States, Dr. Murray has been active in many national and international societies, including President of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Gur Balbir Singh

Dr. Singh is a founding member and current President of the Western Surgery Centre. Currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery (Section of Plastic Surgery) at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Singh has served as Director of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and as a member of both the Executive Committee of the Department of Surgery at St. Boniface General Hospital and the Plastic Surgery Specialty Committee of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Singh is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Singh is also a member of both the Canadian and American Societies for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. 

Dr. Ross MacMahon

Focus: Urology

Dr. Ross MacMahon joined the Department of Surgery, Section of Urology in 1984. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba.

Dr. MacMahon graduated from the National University of Ireland and trained in Urology at the University of Manitoba. He obtained a Fellowship in Male Infertility from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas and trained in Microsurgery there. Dr. MacMahon is currently the Head of Urology at St. Boniface General Hospital where he practices General Urology. He has extensive experience in Microsurgery and has been performing microsurgical vasectomy reversal for almost 30 year.
